We’re looking for an experienced Lead IT Architect, for our international client.

Job details:

  • Role: Lead IT Architect
  • Location: Remote (with occasional onsite presence in Germany)
  • Full time
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Duration: 15.06.2026 – 31.12.2026

Scope:

We are seeking a highly experienced, strategic Lead IT Architect to design and evolve a complex, cross-system IT architecture. The project centers on a mission-critical rail operations system featuring real-time traffic dispatching and an event-driven data platform (IDDI).

As an independent expert, you will take ownership of architectural design, transformation strategies, and developer guidelines. Your primary focus will be on managing a distributed system landscape, reducing complexity, and ensuring the scalability and high availability of a system where real-time data exchange is paramount.

  • Architectural Evolution: Design the target architecture and define robust architectural guidelines for a complex, distributed, and microservices-based system landscape.
  • As-Is to Target Transformation: Perform deep system analysis to smoothly transition legacy components into scalable, modern target architectures.
  • Interface & API Design: Define clean, high-performance interfaces between interconnected systems and services to ensure reliable, real-time data exchange.
  • Technical Advisory: Provide high-level architectural guidance and concrete technical input to engineering teams, striking the perfect balance between high-level vision and hands-on advisory.
  • Documentation & Governance: Create comprehensive architectural documentation, blueprints, and developer guidelines in German to standardize implementation practices.
  • Independent Delivery: Drive architectural outcomes autonomously, aligning with broader program goals in an agile-at-scale environment..

Skills:

  • Architecture Expertise: Deep experience in designing microservices architectures for web applications, with a strong background in Java and TypeScript.
  • Cloud Ecosystems: Proven track record in AWS environments and their managed services.
  • Event Streaming: Hands-on experience with event-driven streaming technologies, specifically Apache Kafka or AWS MSK.
  • Modern Databases: Strong knowledge of cloud-based database systems, such as AWS DocumentDB or AWS Aurora.
  • Transformation & Design: Demonstrated ability to transition complex systems from As-Is to Target architectures, including defining system interfaces.
  • Documentation: Strong capability in writing precise architectural documentation and engineering guidelines.
  • Languages: Fluent German (C1/C2) is mandatory, as it is the primary project and documentation language.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working within high-availability, mission-critical, or operationally sensitive systems (e.g., transport, logistics, or infrastructure).
  • Familiarity with GraphQL and AWS AppSync.
  • Experience navigating large-scale enterprise environments utilizing frameworks like SAFe or Scaled Scrum.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation.
  • A mindset focused on automation, standardization, and complexity reduction.
